The Generation Companies (Generation) recently
welcomed its newest operating partner, Jason
Liesegang, formerly General Manager of the
Candlewood Suites-Richmond West. This innovative
program, pioneered in the hotel industry
by Generation in 2000, promotes proven talented,
and ambitious hotel general managers to
owner-partners, giving them not only more
autonomy, but more financial interest in
their hotel. To qualify, general managers
must complete a rigorous application process,
pay a $5,000 good-faith deposit, and prove
their operational expertise with high scores
in the areas of quality assurance, guest
service, preventative maintenance, telephone
etiquette, and revenue growth. "This
is about managers becoming entrepreneurs
and enjoying more control of their hotel-and
a larger share of the profits," says
H. Mark Daley, III, Generation president.
Liesegang has worked with Generation for
four years. He's been the General Manager
of the Candlewood Suites-Richmond West since
January 2002. "It's a chance to call
something your own," he explains. "Instead
of having to change careers or go to another
company, I can actually stay at the job
I like and am good at and do something different
and important. It's my chance to make a
long-term commitment to a great hotel and
a great company."
The Candlewood Suites-Richmond West, located
at 4120 Brookriver Drive in Glen Allen,
Virginia, is a mid-priced 122-room extended
stay hotel with rates from $69 to $99 per
night for a studio suite. It provides a
unique amenity package including: two phones
using T1 lines, with data ports throughout
the suite; high-speed Internet access; an
oversized desk and executive chair; a recliner;
bulletin board; and a fully equipped kitchen,
with everything from full refrigerator and
dishwasher to stove and complete set of
utensils. All rooms feature at least one
25-inch television, a VCR, compact disk
player and full size ironing board and iron.
The Candlewood also boasts a complete exercise
room, free access to washers and dryers,
25-cent soft drinks, free local calls, a
complimentary video and CD library, and
the Candlewood Cupboard, a 24-hour honor
system pantry.
The Generation Companies is a Research
Triangle Park, North Carolina based real
estate developer, manager and operator of
extended stay hotels in North Carolina,

Generation has more than 2300 hotel rooms
and $115 million in real estate assets under

at 19 properties. Generation is actively
seeking new management and acquisition opportunities
in the extended stay segment. For more about
